remember your Creator in the days of your youth - Ecc 12:1

hey guys!

i just wanna say that i'm really excited that Youth Sunday's coming up so soon and i hope all of you have been praying abt it too! you know, i think that Youth Sunday is really really important and that it's time we all got really passionate for it, if you haven't already. not only are we celebrating the OC's first "birthday", but also the life and the energy that God has blessed as with as young people. it is about showing everyone the mighty works of His hand in our generation through whatever we are doing. whether it's greeting people, handing out the offering bags, leading in song, playing music, reading scriputre, sharing or even just smiling at people or saying a simple prayer for everything to go smoothly, remember that He will certainly honour you, if you are faithful in using whatever you have to bless Him. (Matthew 25:21)

anyway, i remember for Youth Sunday two years back, Audrey Tang, the uber drummer, shared with us something which i would like to share with all of you as well... she first questioned what we wanted to see happening in our church. and i think it's something which might be worth your while thinking about, esp since YOU have been given the chance to make a difference on Youth Sunday. don't you want to see people so blessed by your energy and liveliness that they will realise how God can work in such wonderful ways in their own lives too? don't you want to see people worshipping God for the awesome Lord that He is, because of what they've seen Him done in you?

well, Audrey made us take a look at the story of Elijah in 1 Kings 18. basically a public demonstration of power was staged between Baal with 450 of his prophets and the Lord Almighty with Elijah. Elijah challenged the prophets of Baal, "call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the Lord. The god who answers by fire - he is God." so, in front of people from all over Israel, two seperate bulls were prepared and put on wood for the God to prove himself. the prophets of Baal thus shouted and screamed for their god to send fire, even slashing themselves with swords and spears for Baal to hear them! but from morning till evening, the loud cries from 450 of Baal's prophets were met with no reply. seeing this, Elijah prepared an altar for the Lord, asking for water to be poured over the wood so that everything was soaked up. he then prayed, "O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command. Answer me, O Lord, answer me, so that you, O Lord, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again." Then fire of the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench. When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, "The Lord - he is God! the Lord - he is God!" (1 Kings 18:36-39)

now, what you have to understand here is that these people had all drifted far from God, believing in the prophets of Baal. however, that day when they saw the fire from God, they all fell prostrate and worshipped God. why? because they saw with their own eyes how powerful God was, consuming everything with His fire. though the wood had been soaking with water, God proved to be greater than that problem, in the same way God is greater than all of the problems in our lives. and that if we really live for God, having a passion burning to serve Him, He can make us like His fire so that when people witness what He has done in our lives, they too will fall to the ground in worship and in praise, proclaiming that HE is God.

so, what say you? with the hours counting down to Youth Sunday, it is time to make a commitment to God. are you willing to serve Him and let His fire work through you? this is one BIG chance to bless people around you by showing them how God is working through you, even through the little things... don't say you don't think you can make a difference, coz you know God's put you where you are for a purpose. like you'd never know how a smile or even a "hello" might turn someone's week around - God can and will work through you in the smallest ways if your heart is willing to serve Him. and i think God would really love to hear you out on this...

Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. 1 Tim 4:12
